Bluehost is a website hosting company that was founded in 2003. They offer shared hosting, WordPress hosting, domain name registration, SSL certificates (through an external provider), and easy-to-use site builder tools. They also offer 24/7 customer support services with the lowest wait time in the industry.

Bluehost is a web hosting company owned by Endurance International Group. It is one of the 20 largest web hosts, collectively hosting well over 2 million domains.

Matt Heaton first conceived Bluehost in 1996. However, he first created two other web hosts, Free Web Hosting Services — 50megs.com and 0Catch | Home Page, before finally settling on Bluehost in 2003 with Danny Ashworth.

Bluehost has been operating since 2003 and it hosts 2 million websites.

Bluehost introduced a new feature called CPU throttling in 2009. That I will cover in separate posts.

They obviously made quite an impression in the market, because, in just 7 short years, they got the attention of web hosting giant Endurance International Group, which proceeded to acquire them into the EIG group of companies.

With the support of EIG, Bluehost managed to substantially grow their once small team to 750 members.

Endurance International Group (EIG) acquired them in 2010. Suhaib Zaheer became the CEO in 2017. That same year, EIG announced layoffs of over 400 people and a shuttering of Bluehost’s Orem, Utah office.

HostGator is also owned by the same company — Endurance International Group (EIG). EIG is a bit of a powerhouse and also owns various other providers.

The Indian-based Endurance International Group (EIG) owns Bluehost India. Bluehost India is a dedicated version of Bluehost for Indian users but with a different domain extension.
